you can save a lot during the winter with lowering the thermostat a few degrees, during the summer, using a fan instead of turning on the air conditioner will save a lot of electricity too ...

I use timers on the lights so they switch off when it reaches a certain hour.

Oh and I clean my freezer in a regular basis for excess ice.

By having double glazed windows and good insulation in the walls and near the roof you can keep the home warmer for longer.
So less energy is needed to heat the home.
