Years ago, I would say yes, but today with all the things that farmers feed chickens, the rate of Salmonella has grown considerably. I don't even make Carbonara sauce anymore because of the partially-cooked eggs in it.

Inside of an egg is sterile if the shell is intact. So, as long as you can get the egg out of the shell without getting it contaminated, there is nothing unsafe about eating a raw egg.
