i've heard that rabbits and squirrels have been observed when terminally ill or very very old they actually jump in front of cars. i guess the point was that rabbits and squirrels are fast enough to move out of the way of a speeding car, they can accurately measure where to go so they don't get hit. if they get hit, it was on purpose.
