Are Religous people Relious because they fear Hell?
Religous parents keep telling their children something like "dont do this or you'll go to hell ...", so when they're older will be unconsciencely obsessed with hell and become religous too, do you thing this is true?

Hey guys and girls!!!:)
It's a wrong approach. Hell and heaven really exists, but in fact the decision about doing not doing should be rather based on the wisdom, because everything that God says, for sure is true and will not do you harm (betrayal, stealth, murder, abortion etc...). God loves us people, but the problem is that we do not trust it to much. I see those comments: who's that guy? A priest? No a normal young man. I believe anyway it's worth living a good life in order to be happy when I die.

I don't think that kind of logic is good for an individual. We are given free will in this life for a reason. God does'nt want us to do things out of fear of Hell, He wants us to want to do what is right. We're going to mess up, and that is part of the human experience. It's when regret what we have done and want to change that God is ready to forgive. He knows we won't always do the right thing, and when we have remorse and regret, He is ready to forgive us for it. When we don't want forgiveness and willfully do what is contrary to His will, we end up putting ourselves in Hell. So, I think "religious" parents would be more effective if they let their child know that there are real consequences for their actions, whether their actions are good or evil.

I'm not afraid of hell. When you realize how intensely God loves you, you will bask in his warmth.

Heaven and hell is real, but the loves us to much that he gave his life for us. So I think we should do the same for him. He doesn't ask for much but to love each other...picture this if we all just love each other , we wouldn't have crime, drugs, guns etc. Everyone would be on one accord, no religous groups or non of that. But hey that why its heaven and hell. So u choose the way u live just dnt be surprise when ur time up.

At the risk of sounding a bit...anti-religious(?)...I have an answer for you...lol. Religion is nothing more than tradition, rules and regulations...or in other words, "the Law." Keep in mind, that it was the religious folks that put Jesus to death because he didn't conform to their way of thinking! At the same time, I personally, am saved by grace... which in essence is where God loved me enough to accept the sacrifice that Jesus made in my behalf, so that I wouldn't have to bear my own sins on Judgment Day. But that has NOTHING to do with religion or religious people. That has to do with three things. Grace, mercy, and most of all, love. Hope this helps. Religious people generally either don't understand grace, or they don't want to take responsibility for the discipline of their own children...they'd rather put it off on a vengeful, vindictive and judgmental interpretation of who they think God to be. I suppose it's easier to say "God's gonna get you if you do that" than it is to simply put your foot down as a parent??? Is it any wonder with all the religious folks running around that people don't like Christians?

my parents are catholic, but im not sure about god. the universe is too big and us too small to come to conclusions. I'll try and live a good life though, just in case there is final judgement, hell etc :)
