Shopping ... A mania or what ?
We all love shopping? Aren’t we? But can you think that today “shopping” is also considered as a mental disease? Excessive shopping is considered as a mania and it is known as “Shop holism”.
We all go for shopping not only to buy the things for us but also for refreshment. Sometimes even we go for “window shopping”.
We love window shopping as it gives us a clear idea about the fashion trend. It does not include any money. So especially teenagers and the students of school, colleges who are not working and always facing the problem of short of pocket money love it! Window shopping helps to spend time in the malls with friends without spending money, it helps to see the newly arrived materials in the shopping mall and moreover it is a great time pass for them.
But there are shoppers who take shopping as a daily and essential activity. They spend most of their money on shopping. They easily get attracted by the newly arrived materials in the malls; they easily get convinced by the salespersons in the shopping mall. These persons are generally fashion conscious, figure conscious, health conscious .They are very concerned about their friend circle and the families. They love shopping not only to please themselves but also to get complements from the friend circles and the family members. If someone praises their dresses or any household which they have bought from the shopping mall they become happy.
Sometimes they even forget their financial conditions when going for shopping .They usually do not have any control over the shopping. They get highly influence by the surroundings.

For example:
Valentines Day, Christmas Day, Scribble Day, Chocolate Day and many more days.
The retailers use these ‘days’ to attract the shopping maniac people. They give many offers, discounts etc on the special days to drive more crowds into their retail outlet.
Apart from that the shopaholic people can even purchase something without ant occasions or discounts. Suppose they have gone for lunch in a shopping mall, suddenly they notice an attractive shop with good ambience and fabulous designed clothes. They will surely enter the shop to view some more and if they like something they can even purchase it then and there without considering the financial condition.

Sometimes these people go for shopping unnecessarily. They do it because according to them..
 • It gives them mental pleasure
 • It works like a refreshment to them
 • It helps them to build self-confidence
 • It helps them to involve in some social activities [For shopping they go to shopping malls where many people are just rushing here and there to pick up the best thing from the mall. They like this crowd for shopping and after shopping they shoe the purchased ones to the friends, family members which give them and extra pleasure.]
 • It helps them to engage in some activities. [There are many people specially housewives who do not have much work to do at home. So very often they go for shopping with other housewives or friends to spend the spare time.]
 • Shopping helps them to be up to date by changing with the trends in the market.

So “shopping” is good when it is necessary but unnecessary shopping is not acceptable. It may cause from some problems, for eg: depression, frustration, loneliness etc.So one has to be very concerned before going for shopping. He/she should not take shopping as a time pass activity.
