Reading Habit Is The Best Habit
Knowledge has no ending. Even if we follow it as a sinking star, we will not be able to finish the track of it. Reading of books contributes to the enrichment of our knowledge in terms of human experience and information gained from it. But this reading habit is not at all equilibrium throughout the world. Different people over the corners of the world have their own reading habit developed by themselves. Some people stick to reading of religious books while some follow the daily magazines. There are some who are too bookish and follow only their academics and there are some who only stick with the dynamic subjects like, astrology, numerology, astronomy etc. Reading habbitconstitutes to the ratio of literacy. Illiterate people are far away from this beautiful habit and they are considered to be unfortunate. But those who are literate must had this reading habit within themselves. There are places in India where education has passed from generation to generation verbally. Knowledge of Ayurvda, Chandsi, and some other Vedic subjects has been forwarded to the next generation through oral communication and field experiences. But apart from that reading habit is common with most of us.

Following the daily newspaper is a very good reading habit though it very uncommon in the third world countries. Today formal teaching method of imparting knowledge to students is largely "notes oriented" or certain "handouts" are given to the students to ensure the knowledge transformation.

This hardly expects the students to dive into the huge volume of literature in search of knowledge. These methods serve the purposes of the students of getting knowledge, but it is completely superficial. This effect has failed to arouse an inner urge among the students for self studies.

The habit of reading depends upon many factors. The first concern is teaching, which plays an important role for growing this reading habit. But the teaching profession unfortunately lays more emphasis on achieving short term objectives than reaching the ultimate goal. To prepare for examinations students to consult more diluted note type text books or rather “test papers” which concentrate only on the type of questions which will add high scores in the report card or mark sheet. This lay more emphasis on developing a student or an individual for his or her adult life but this simply does not make any contribution towards self improvement. For individual improvement love for books and reading is an essential pre-requisite.

For reading habits to grow up one need an inner urge of curiosity to read and to know what constitute it. Language has been another barrier, because many goods knowledge oriented books which are written in different languages. Some books are written in French while some are Latin, some are Hindi, and some are Arabic and many more. Though translation is a process to transform these different lingual books into a common one but through it a lot of the original content is lost.

Another factor is the influence of libraries and educational institutions. We lack of good libraries which contributes a lot to this habit .A place with god libraries along with rich collections attract the readers. But still reading and knowledge impartment has brought humans to this new era of jet age where people are faster and swifter from earlier times.
