Dominican Foundation Culturarte of New York is the brainchild of Dr. Jorge Pina and his partner Karina Rieke. Based in Washington Heights, it is the vision of a long awaited and needed cultural arts center servicing predominately the Latino Community in Northern Manhattan and is the only cultural arts center available uptown. Dr. Pina has managed to turn an unusable space into a place where people from around the world can come and mingle any day of the week, experience and learn about the wonderful cultural artists in Northern Manhattan in both Spanish and English. If you are a cultural artists of any type, this growing non-profit organization maybe able to help you with funding or give you the ability to showcase your talent or projects. There are exhibitions, jazz shows, dance presentations, plays to be produced, poetry readings and even nights when Dr. J. Pina and or Karina showcase some of their other talents; surely it is a talent to put together this wonderful performance and educational space. Karina is a wonderful visual artist and the publisher of Culturarte's newsletter as well. The center has been upgrading and remodeling with colors representing the golden opportunities being presented to the uptown communities by making sound use of this gorgeous community center. A great time to see one of its' new programs in action would be during the opening of a mentors program this July 23rd from 7:00 pm sharp until 9:00 pm. There will be a performance by a professional Jazz and R&B band featuring some of the top Jazz musicians residing in New York with one of the most passionate and captivating lead singers who has been featured at Central Park, the Apollo and various mid-town and east side venues. Entrance is based on a suggested donation basis.
