Everyone has a reason for loosing or the other, but when it is becoming persistent, it is refereed to as insomnia. It is a state of complete sleeplessness.
Medically, it is believed that about seven or eight hours of sleep is required for the normal function, but it varies individually. Therefore a situation where less of the required sleep is constantly being experienced is insomnia.
Because sleep is a required for the body to function perfectly, insomnia can be a pointer to a mental illness and can also cause lack of concentration. Lack of sleep can also lead to a fatal road accident.
Signs of insomnia may include, waking up during the night, sleeplessness or general fatigue in the body. Insomnia can be caused by excessive stress as a result of day work, family problem, anxiety and constant addiction to stimulants like caffeine and coffee addiction or long term addiction to sleeping tablets.
Insomnia can be seen as a psychological related problem. Therefore using of drugs might not be the best solution for its treatment. An insomnia patients needs to be in the right frame of mind to get treated because the reasons behind the insomnia must be known and removed before any reasonable treatment could take place.

An insomnia patients should not attempts provoke himself to sleeping because this acts might lead another state of insomnia. Therefore, a cold shower or eaten little or no solid food in night might helps in relaxing the mind therefore sleeping can be naturally induced.
