MBA –A career option
Why has an MBA become so sacrosanct? There can be several factors for this increased craze in this course. The most obvious of them is the fact that MBA gives basic entry criteria for corporate managerial jobs.

Management is a diverse discipline involving five tasks: planning, organizing, monitoring, controlling and evaluating. Well all these tasks are to meet a specific goal or objective. Opting for a career in management will bring about a total change in the outlook and attitude of the person.

Managers in the past who were did not undergo any professional training acquired their skills and expertise through years of hard work and trial and error methods. As such by the time these managers get ready with the skills the demand and requirements might have changed and there may be a need for a different skill set. So, most of such managers go to executive programs of reputed institutes. This shows the importance of professional training.

Management training is imparted through various methods to bridge the gap between reality and theory with the help of case studies, seminars by the experts, guest faculty, and apprenticeship.

A typical institute offers its course in 2 years program and covers advanced courses in economics, statistics, quantitative techniques and data processing and behavioral sciences is also part of the course.
During the first year the emphasis on familiarizing the students with all areas of management likes operations, human resource management, finance and accounting and marketing. The second year is dedicated to the development of specific competencies. Specialization can be taken on area in a specific industry for instance banking in the management of a core sector activity or entrepreneurship.

Now for the big question is MBA qualification enough to ensure a safe future. The answer depends a lot on the institute that imparts the training. There is always a shortage pf premier MBA’s in the job market. This implies that there is an oversupply of ordinary MBA’s from various institutes across the globe.

So, graduating from a premier institute is important for a good start in career. A good curriculum, faculty ,infrastructure, affiliation of an institute to a technical body, and the placement record of the institute would be useful in choosing the right b-school or management institute.
