How do Solar Cars work?
      Do you know how what this is and how does this work? If not then read this and if you know you can gain more knowledge by reading this. Instead of using fuel, solar car runs with the help of electricity. The batteries located in the solar car get charged by receiving solar energy with the help of solar panels located on the surface of the car. Solar panels are mostly fixed on the roof of the car as more energy can be absorbed by doing this.

How does this work?

    Solar car runs by using the power of the sun that is received by the solar panels. The car will be running with the instantaneous energy during sunny days and simultaneously the batteries get charged. These batteries generate the required energy at the times when there is no sun to provide energy. In one word, batteries act as a backup for this car. Photovoltaic cells present convert the solar energy into electrical energy which is required to run the car.

    These cars are exclusively used in places where fuel rates are high and in solar car races. Same as a normal racing car, solar car will have small room for the driver with some separate sections designed for the navigator. These cars will have all the features that a normal car possesses. Similar features here mean features like brake, accelerator, rear view mirrors and ventilation system. In race cars camera facility and radio which helps to communicate with the supporting crew is present.

Design of the car:

    The design of the car concentrates on reducing the friction and weight of the car. This is done to minimize the breakage of the parts. Generally, these vehicles are made of titanium and similar composites so that a better strength to weight ratio is acquired.

Batteries:

    The batteries present in the solar car stores the energy generated by the photovoltaic cells. There are a different varieties of batteries used for this car. The most common batteries that are used are nickel-cadmium, lead-acid, nickel-metal, lithium polymer, lithium-ion batteries and hydride batteries. In most of the solar cars there will be a gauge that indicates the storage charge level in the batteries.

Generally, most of the cars are designed to generate 240 watts of electric power that will be enough for 1 16 km drive.
