Emotional Intelligence is otherwise known as Emotional Quotient and it is dealt as a part of human psychology. Emotional Intelligence means the ability of a person to access, influence and comprehend his emotions and that of his fellow men. The Emotional Intelligence of a person can be classified in to Empathy, Self awareness, Handling of emotions and relationships. The empathy deals with the ability of a person to understand the emotional feelings of the other people. The relationship makes a person to be able to communicate well and have a healthy interaction between him and others. Self awareness is concerned with a person’s self emotional feelings and the way he acknowledges it. Finally handling the emotions pertains to the capacity of a person to control his emotions according to the situation.
Every human being is a complex mixture of emotions. We express our feelings in different ways at different situations. At times we may get flooded with emotions and our mind gets shrouded by these feelings of anger, frustration, fear etc and during such times our judgment levels will be very poor and we will not be able to think and act rationally. Hence every one of must learn to handle and control our emotions which can avoid many undesired situations in our lives.
If we want to be successful in every aspect of our life such as personal, official, social lives, we need to develop our Emotional Intelligence which helps us to have a good rapport and relationship with everyone we meet. Why should we unnecessarily lose our temper and continue to have a bad day at work or home? Instead, controlling our emotions and keeping cool can make us study the situation calmly thus preventing any stressful situations.
If we develop few qualities like being flexible, understand the non verbal communication by keen observation; empathize others’ feelings; being compassionate to others etc, it shows that we have control over our emotions and our Emotional Intelligence is commendable. If any one wants to improve his rate of Emotional Intelligence there are various coaching programs available and the counselors are everywhere around us to open up our minds regarding the same.
Our emotions are not born with us. We have developed them through the interactions and relationships with people and we can easily have a control over them if we have a concern towards others.
