Earth’s population in year 2050
The world population is a hugely debated issue. There are concerns about population growth rate and the higher rates are often considered as a massive problem for the future. The population of earth at the end of year 2007 was 6.7 billion. Estimation was made about the population in year 2050. The figure estimated was 9 billion people. According to the current population growth rates it seems that this figure will reach in the near future. Worldwatch Institute, a nonpartisan Washington based research group, has also declared that it has no confidence on this estimate. They say in their report that there is huge variability in the fertility rates all over the world. There are many factors attributing to this variability. There are a lot of contradictions among the factors too. Take for example on one side there is the fact that the families are getting smaller in number and in size and on other hand we have a near-record levels of births. How can they both be true? There is a simple explanation to rising birth rates. In 1970 there were only 856 million women of fertile age group, i.e. between 15 to 49 years, while the year 2007 records show 1.7 billion women in this group. Only the future growth of reproductive-age population is really predictable. The women of reproductive age in next two decades are already alive today, except only the youngest ones, who aren’t born yet. This factor is only one of many others which determine population growth. Each factor in itself is influenced by many others.
Many pessimists only see the population growth negatively that soon earth will be over-run by people. Anyway, for governments to sustain the low birth rates and decline in childbearing; and also to increase life expectancy; they have to put up continued efforts to improve access to good health care. Both the government efforts and the growth trends can be negatively affected by environmental or social deterioration.
Due to so many interlinked and uncertain factors the exact prediction of population in 2050 or the population growth in future is very difficult. Many studies say that the world has enough resources but the richest countries abuse it. Yet still there are larger families in the poorer countries.
