Do you know that now the probability of breast cancer have increased ?

Earlier we used to have an idea that females are prone to the breast cancer but it is totally a wrong concept. The breast cancer can affect the male also. Each year about 1700 men in America learn that they are having the breast cancer [according to National Cancer institute, United States, 2007]. But according to the information given by the National Cancer Institute about breast cancer is the mot common type of cancer among the women rather the other cancer like skin cancer, cervical cancer etc. Each year almost 2lakhs 11 thousand women suffer from this disease in America.

Now let me tell you what is cancer and how the breasts get affected by this disease.

Our body is made up of the tissues which are made of by the cells. The cancer begins in the cells of the tissue. Generally the cells keep on growing, they divide up and form the new cells as per the requirement of our body . So when the old cells die the new cells grow and they take the place of the dead cells. This process goes on a particular way but sometimes the process can be wrong. The new cells may grow when it is not demanded by the body or the old cells may not die even when it is demanded by our body. So all the extra cells form the mass of tissues which is generally known as the Tumor. There are generally two types of tumors.

• Benign Tumors
• Malignant Tumors

Make your concept clear that the Benign Tumors are not CANCER but the Malignant Tumors are CANCER.

Benign Tumos:

The features of the Benign Tumors are…
• They are life threatening but it is a rare case
• These tumors can be removed from our body
• Generally the cells which form the benign tumors do not invade the other tissues around them
• Generally the cells from the benign tumors do not spread to the other places of the body

Malignant Tumors:

The features of the Malignant Tumors are…
• They can form the cancer and the malignant tumors are very life threatening
• These tumors can be removed from the body but sometimes they again grow back
• The cells of the malignant tumors can invade the nearby tissues and the areas of the body
• The cells from the Malignant tumor can also spread to the other parts of the body (Metastasize). Generally the cells breaks away from the original tumor (primary tumor) and then enter the blood stream (lymphatic system). The process of spreading the cancer in the body is known as Metastasis.

In case of the breast cancer the cancer cells generally found in the lymph nodes near the breasts. Breast cancer can also affect the bones, liver, lungs and even the brain.

If the breast cancer spreads to the lung then the cancer cells in the lung are actually the breast cancer. This disease is known as the Metastatic Breast Cancer but not the lung cancer. The new tumor in the lung is known as the “distant” or metastatic disease. This cancer will be treated as the breast cancer but not the lung cancer.

There are lots of research on the breast cancer to prevent the cancer as we are prone to this. There are so many therapies which are done to cure the breast cancer affected patient. Some of them are mentioned here..

• Surgery
• Radiation Therapy
• Chemotherapy
• Hormone Therapy
• Biological Therapy etc

But the first thing what you have to do is checking your breasts on a regularly basis. If you feel any lump in your breast please consult your doctor in spite of thinking that whether the lump is cancer or not. The lump may or may not form the cancer but definitely you have to be very much cautious about your own body.
